Update Galaxy Tab 2 (P3100/P3110/P3113) with Android 4.4.4 KitKat Custom ROM

Update Galaxy Tab 2 (P3100/P3110/P3113) with Android 4.4.4 KitKat Custom ROM

The SOKP (Sonic Open Kang Project) is out and available for several Android based devices, including Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 model number P3100. This new firmware is based on stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS and comes with great features, therefore if you want to test something new on your Galaxy Tab 2, then you should try the SOKP custom ROM. In order to do so, all you have to do is to read, follow and apply the guidelines from below, where I have explained all the info required when dealing with unofficial updates.
Now, as you can already tell, SOKP is not an official Android update released by Samsung for your Galaxy Tab 2. Actually this is a custom ROM that is based on official and stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. Anyhow, the SOKP platform is customized and optimized especially for your Android tablet which means that this firmware will bring a stable and smooth KitKat experience to your Tab 2 P3100. Thus, it should be clear for you that SOKP has nothing to do with Samsung or Google as this aspect is extremely important.
Because you are about to flash an unofficial Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS on your Galaxy Tab 2, you need to know that you first have to prepare your phone for the update operation that will shortly follow. Also, you need to know that you can only manually install SOKP firmware on your tablet and while doing the same the warranty of your handset will get void. So, after completing this tutorial you won’t be able to reclaim the Galaxy tab 2 warranty anymore as you will apply important changes within the internal system of your Android device.
As already mentioned, the SOKP system is stable and runs without bugs or lags on the Galaxy Tab 2. Moreover, the firmware brings stock and extra Android 4.4.4 KitKat features and apps to your device which means that you will be able to customize, optimize and personalize your tablet with ease. Furthermore, with SOKP installed, your tablet will run faster and better; the battery life will be improved, the Android UI customized and the general performances optimized. Of course, you will also be able to remove bloatware and add new programs by accessing the internal system of your handset.
Of course, for being able to do so, first of all root access must be ensured on your Tab 2. This is the first thing to do before applying the guidelines from below. The second operation to complete is to install a custom recovery image, preferable the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery, as this app will be used on the flashing operation – you cannot complete this guide without using a custom recovery image so don’t skip these steps. Do note that these procedures are also unofficial and risky so use compatible tutorials with your Tab 2 when performing the same, or else you can end up in bricking your tablet.
Another thing to do before starting to update your Tab 2 to KitKat 4.4.4 is to save your data; as you will see during the installation process a wipe will be required and when completing the same you will lose everything from the internal storage memory. Therefore, in order to place your personal data, info and accounts in safe hands, a backup is more than recommended. In that matter you can use compatible backup and restore apps from Google Play or you can use a cloud service; moreover, since a custom recovery image is installed, you should also consider in saving EFS folder and in applying a Nandroid backup for saving the current ROM from your Galaxy Tab 2.
This is a manual update operation and a computer is being required. On the computer you are using temporarily deactivate the antivirus protection as you will have to download some files. Then, on your tablet enable the USB debugging option (from “menu – settings – developer options”) or else you might not be able to establish a connection between your devices. I recommend you to charge your tablet before doing anything else – do that if the battery level is lower than 50% – because if your Tab 2 gets turned off in the middle of the installation process, it might also get bricked. Finally, remember that this step by step guide is compatible only with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 and with no other Android based smartphone or tablet.

How to Update Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 with SOKP Android 4.4.4 KitKat Custom ROM Firmware

  1. From here download the update file and from here the Google Apps package.
  2. Save these files on your computer (on desktop) without unzipping the same.
  3. Then, connect your tablet with your PC by using the USB cord.
  4. Transfer the downloaded files from desktop to your tablet’s SD card.
  5. Remove the USB cable and turn off your Tab 2.
  6. Then, enter recovery mode on your Android device.
  7. From recovery first of all wipe the system and clear cache by selecting “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
  8. Return to main menu of recovery and from there this time select “install zip from SD card” followed by “choose zip from SD card”.
  9. Pick the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS and install the same on your Galaxy Tab 2; don’t forget to repeat this process for flashing the Google Apps package.
  10. In the end, from main menu of recovery select “reboot system now” as you are done.
  11. If you are experiencing a boot loop issue, go back to recovery and select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
Congratulations; you have successfully updated your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 to Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware by applying the SOKP (Sonic Open Kang Project) custom ROM software.
